Charity:

A common understanding of charity is what many people of faith would call ‘almsgiving’ a strong tradition in Christianity and Islam as well as Buddhism and other faiths. During Lent, for example Christians are urged to pray, to fast and to give alms (money or goods) to people in need.

In Islam:

“The likeness of those who spend their wealth in Allah's way is as the likeness of a grain which grows seven ears, in every ear a hundred grains. Allah gives increase manifold to whom He will. And Allah is All-Sufficient for His creatures' needs, All-Knower”. [Surah al-Baqarah: Ayah 261]

“Who will grant Allah a loan? Then Allah will repay him many times over.  It is Allah who enriches and makes poor.  To Him you shall all return”. [Surah al-Baqarah:  Ayah  245] Learn More

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "The believer's shade on the Day of Resurrection will be his charity." - Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 604

The Prophet (peace be upon him) also said: "Give charity without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity." - Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 589.Learn More

In Christianity:

There are many other Christian verses in which Jesus expresses God's love and compassion for the poor, such as Matthew 19:21 (If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven and come follow Me).

"But when you give a reception, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind and you will be blessed, since they do not have the means to repay you; for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous". Luke 14:13-14
